Building Resilient Communities With Nature
Surculus was hired by Audubon SC for Community Engagement & Nature-Based Design within climate-vulnerable communities in and around Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge in coastal South Carolina. With funding from multiple grant sources including NOAA, NFWF, and the Donnelly Foundation, Audubon conducted community outreach and vulnerability analyses to determine appropriate nature-based solutions to protect critical bird habitat while simultaneously building climate resilience for vulnerable human communities. The intention of this project was to co-create these solutions alongside the communities as opposed to the more traditional process of designing for them.
